Frisco – State Representative Jared Patterson is among a growing chorus of state officials who are outraged at the 7-day jail sentencing of Shelley Luther, the owner of a Dallas hair salon who defied county orders to shutter her business.
“While Dallas County has elevated the status of hardened criminals in this pandemic, releasing over a thousand of them from jail, a Dallas judge has now decided to ‘throw the book’ at a working mother, and a job creator for other working moms. Depriving a Texan of liberty is one of the harshest punishments we have as a state, and it should not be done lightly. Doing so in this case is an absolute perversion of justice, and a misapplication of judicial discretion and authority,” said Representative Patterson.
Patterson calls for the immediate release of Ms. Luther and for the judge’s actions to be investigated and sanctioned to the fullest extent of the law.
